The bereaved family of Nollywood actor John Paul Odonwodo, fondly known as Junior Pope, has disclosed the details of his upcoming burial ceremony. Mr. Odonwodo and four fellow actors tragically lost their lives in an unfortunate boat accident on April 10. The incident occurred in the Anam River, Anambra State, while they were returning from a movie shoot.
Out of the 12 individuals on board, only seven were rescued alive. The actor’s family confirmed his passing alongside four others, marking a profound loss in the entertainment industry.
The arrangements for Mr. Odonwodo’s final rites commenced on April 23 with a requiem mass held at Saint John-Mary Vianney Parish in Asaba, Delta State, as indicated on his burial poster, signed by Divine Odonwodo on behalf of the family.
Further commemorations are scheduled, beginning with another requiem mass slated for May 13 at Christ the King Catholic Parish, G.R.A, Enugu. Subsequently, an evening dedicated to tributes and candle lighting will be held on May 14 at the Amadeo Event Centre in Enugu, starting from 5 p.m.
On May 16, a wake will take place at his hometown in Uwala Abaka, Ukehe, situated in the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of the state.
The final act of farewell will occur on May 17, as the late Nollywood actor is laid to rest in his hometown following a burial mass at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ukehe. Interment will proceed immediately after the burial ceremony, per the family’s arrangements.
Concluding the series of events, a thanksgiving mass will be held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ukehe, on May 20, providing an opportunity for loved ones to express gratitude amidst the mourning period.
