    Yewa Unity Cup 2025 Kicks Off with Flair

    Yewa North Executive Chairman, Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo, Alaye of Ayetoro, Onijoun of Ijoun, Onigboko of Igboko, Onijale of Ijale-Ketu, YPDC Locochap Chairmen, and Community Representatives Flag Off Matches at Different Centres.

    The highly anticipated Yewa Unity Football Competition (Youth Championship) 2025 officially commenced on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, marked by colorful ceremonies across three venues: Comprehensive High School, Ayetoro; Alamuwa Grammar School, Ado-Odo; and YNLG Primary School, Ijoun.

    The event attracted prominent figures, including the Executive Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, and esteemed traditional rulers such as Kabiyesi Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo, Oba Olushola Idris Lamidi Osolo; Kabiyesi Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdul-Azeez Ishola Adelakun; Kabiyesi Onijoun of Ijoun, Oba Gabriel Ogunji; Kabiyesi Onigboko of Igboko, Oba Itu Olasunkanmi Yusuf Oladehinde; and Kabiyesi Onijale of Ijale-Ketu, Oba B. B. Oyero.

    Other key attendees included local government officials, security chiefs, community leaders, and football enthusiasts.

    Delivering a speech on behalf of the President of Yewa Youth Association (YYA), the Deputy President, Com. Isikalu Olanrewaju, alongside other YYA executives, emphasized the competition’s goal of fostering unity and development in Yewaland through sports. “This is more than a tournament; it’s a celebration of our heritage and a platform to showcase our talented youth to the world,” the President’s message stated. He extended gratitude to the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Alayeluwa Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and other key supporters, while calling for further sponsorships to enhance future stages of the competition.

    The Executive Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, praised the Yewa Youth Association for their dedication to unity and peace. “This initiative complements the Ogun State government’s efforts to promote peace and development, and I am proud to see our youth leading this movement,” he said.

    Traditional leaders, including Kabiyesi Olofin Adimula of Ado-Odo, Oba Olushola Idris Osolo, commended the organizers for uniting diverse communities. “The Yewa River runs through various cultural groups—Awori, Ketu, Anago, Eyo, Ogu, and more. Programs like this foster unity and celebrate our shared heritage,” Oba Osolo remarked.

    Other dignitaries, including Kabiyesi Alaye of Ayetoro, Kabiyesi Onijoun of Ijoun, Kabiyesi Onijale of Ijale-Ketu, and the DPO of Ado-Odo, praised the sportsmanship and professionalism displayed by match officials and participating teams, expressing optimism for the tournament’s continued success. The competition features **25 town teams** and will run for **seven weeks**, with scouts from both local and international football academies in attendance. The final match is slated for **March 2025**, promising an exciting culmination to this unifying sporting event.

    Yewa Youths Opt Out of Nationwide Protest, Advocate for Dialogue

    Youths across Yewaland have resolved not to participate in the upcoming nationwide protest scheduled to commence 1st of August, 2024. Announcing its decision to employ dialogue, Yewa Youth Association, the coordinating parent-youth body for all youth bodies in Yewaland, submitted that peaceful engagement is the most effective means to achieve meaningful and lasting change.

    In light of recent events, the leadership of the youth body noted the deep concerns and passions that are driving many to take to the streets. However, YYA firmly believes that fostering open communication and mutual understanding is the best path forward.

    “Our decision not to participate in the upcoming protest is grounded in our commitment to constructive dialogue and peace,” said Com. Olaniran Fatai, the body’s spokesman. “We understand and respect the voices of those who choose to protest, but we believe that sustainable change comes from engaging with stakeholders in meaningful conversations.”

    Yewa Youth Association reemphasized its dedication to its mission and noted that it will continue to work tirelessly to address the issues at hand through various initiatives, including community forums, policy advocacy, and collaborative efforts with other organizations and leaders. The body has invited the entire youth framework of Yewaland to join them in these efforts to create a more inclusive and equitable society.

    In a historic and unprecedented event that will be remembered for years to come, the Yewa Youth Association successfully hosted a groundbreaking Youth-Legislators dialogue, bringing together the entire legislative representation of Yewaland for the first time. This monumental gathering, tagged “365-Day Stewardship and Youth Dialogue: A Conversation with Yewa 10th National and State Legislators,” marked a significant milestone in the region’s political history, as it fostered a direct and open exchange between the youth and their elected officials. The event symbolized a new era of transparency, accountability, and youth empowerment, setting a powerful example for civic engagement across the nation.

    It was a showoff of what the future of Yewaland holds, rightly so, as Yewa legislators, underscoring the importance of youth involvement in legislative processes, on Saturday 22nd June, joined in at ASUP Hall, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, in a commendable positive response to their youth constituency.

    In his opening remarks, the President of the Yewa Youth Association (YYA), Comr. Abduljabar Ayelaagbe, welcomed all participants and highlighted projects executed by the youth body so far. He stated the objective of the dialogue, nothing that it goes beyond appreciating the legislators but also to “explore, learn, and collaborate on the vital issues that shape Yewaland and our world today.” He highlighted the association’s commitment to continuous engagement with lawmakers and emphasized the potential of the youth in shaping the future of Yewaland.

    Declaring the events open, The Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Rahmon Bello, Chairman, Yewa People Development Council (YPDC) and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, commended the Yewa Youth Association for a well-executed outing and for continuously exhibiting genuine passion and executing series of inspirational programmes towards advancing the youth for the overall development of Yewaland. He stated that the event is to celebrate the legislators and present an opportunity for them to share the challenges faced and how Yewaland can overcome them.

    With each taking the stage to present their stewardship reports on their one year in office, highlighting key projects executed and the progress made in various sectors, participants witnessed a new precedent for youth engagement in governance.

    In attendance were Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI, Senator Representing Ogun West Senatorial District; Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency; and Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency. State legislators present were Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, Deputy Speaker and Member Representing Yewa South State Constituency; Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju Awoso, Yewa North I State Constituency; Hon. Bisi Oyedele, Idiroko/Ipokia State Constituency and Hon. Wahab Haruna, Yewa North II State Constituency.

    Winners of “Yewaland of My Dream” Essay Competition

    A highlight of the event was the prize presentation to secondary school students who participated in an essay competition themed “Yewaland of My Dream.” The competition saw an overwhelming response, with students showcasing their visions for the future of Yewaland. Winners were awarded cash prizes and educational materials, in recognition of their insightful and inspiring contributions.

    The success of the youth engagement marks the beginning of a promising partnership aimed at the development of Yewaland. Hence, the furtherance of dialogue and collaboration between youths across the region and their Legislators must be sustained by the Yewa Youth Association.

    It is safe to conclude that the voices of Yewa youths will continue to be heard and valued in the decision-making process toward a bright future, driven by an empowered and proactive youth movement.

    In attendance were Royal fathers across Yewa towns: Oba J. O Adesiyan, Onihunbo Of Ihunbo Yewa; Oba M. A Awode, Ololo Of Ijofin Yewa; Oba J. A Ajani, Opo Of Idosemo Yewa; Oba S. I Adegbola, Alaye Of Oniro Agude Yewa; Oba Olowobese Oyebanji, Oloja of Oja Odan; and Oba Lukmon Kuoye, Onimasayi of Imasayi, who joined in virtually.

    The Council of Baales was also noticeably present. Representatives were Chief Babatunde Yinusa, Baale of Idi Isin; Chief Ibrahim Ajisafe, Baale of Ojete; Chief Olalekan Ajibola, Baale of Gbogidi; Chief Rasak Oguntola, Baale of Igbonla; Chief Abidemi Akorede, Baale of Orile Igboro; and Chief bidemi Idowu, Baale of Isoku.

    Other distinguished guests were Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, Hon. Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Ogun State; Hon.     On Saturday, 22nd June, 2024, youths across Yewaland will engage their legislators in a dialogue tagged “365-Day Stewardship and Youth Dialogue: A Conversation with Yewa 10th National and State Legislators” organized by the Yewa Youth Association (YYA). With promises to create a platform for direct engagement and meaningful conversation, the event will mark a significant milestone in the relationship between the youth of Yewaland and their state and national legislators.

    The Youth-Legislators Dialogue, endorsed by the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, HRM Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, lending significant weight to the dialogue, underscoring its importance and potential impact, aims to bridge the gap between the youth and their legislators, ensuring that the voices of the young people in Yewaland are heard and considered in the legislative process.

    The Youth-Dialogue also features an Essay Competition for secondary school students within Yewaland. With over half a million prizes up for grabs, the competition, titled “Yewaland of My Dream”, has received so much commendation. The award ceremony is one of the activities lined up for Saturday.

    The programme to be chaired by the Chairman of Yewa People Development Council (YPDC), Professor Rahmon Bello, will also have in attendance notable Yewa sons and daughters from across the globe.

    With one day to go amidst high anticipation, the potential impacts of the Youth-Legislators Dialogue is a discourse that should define the moment. Enhanced civic engagement, policy responsiveness, empowerment, and leadership development among many others are potential gains of the event.

    Special commendation is due to the Yewa Youth Association for their proactive and innovative approach to engaging their legislators. This marks a significant shift from the traditional focus on the executive arm of government, highlighting the association’s forward-thinking vision and commitment to comprehensive civic engagement.
