The management of KAM Steel Integrated Company, located along the Sagamu-Ogijo Expressway, announced on Monday that it has launched an investigation into an industrial accident that claimed the life of Yahaya Ibrahim.
Ibrahim, 27, a worker for one of the company’s contractors, died after being crushed by an engine roller.
The company stated that Ibrahim was not operating the machine at the time of the incident and that the investigation would help establish the details of what happened.
Tunde Badejo, the company’s Head of Human Capital, disclosed this in a statement to journalists. Badejo described the incident as a purely industrial accident involving only the deceased.
According to reports, Ibrahim was operating the engine roller when he slipped and fell onto the roller early Sunday morning. Efforts by other staff members to rescue him were unsuccessful, and the roller crushed him to death.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident on Sunday and stated that Ibrahim’s body had been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital morgue in Sagamu.
The company’s statement read, in part: “The management of KAM Steel Integrated Company clarifies that Yahaya Ibrahim, a staff member of one of the company’s contractors, was not operating the machine when he got entangled with its moving parts and died at the factory along the Sagamu-Ogijo Expressway in Ogun State. The incident, which occurred around 9:12 pm on Saturday, was promptly reported to the DPO of the area. The management is conducting a thorough investigation and awaiting a possible post-mortem report to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
