Dangote Refinery has announced that it will commence the supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the Nigerian market from July 10–15, 2025.
This announcement was made by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, during a recent tour of the 650,000 barrel per day capacity refinery by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The new commencement date follows an earlier plan to start fuel supply in June. The delay was attributed to a minor challenge, as explained by Dangote.
“We had a bit of delay, but PMS will start coming out by July 10 to 15. We want to keep it in the tank to ensure it settles properly. So by the third week of July, we’ll be ready to take it into the market,” Dangote stated.
Previously, at the Africa CEO Forum Annual Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, Dangote had declared that his refinery would end Nigeria’s petrol importation. “Right now, Nigeria has no cause to import anything apart from gasoline and by sometime in June, within the next four or five weeks, Nigeria shouldn’t import anything like gasoline; not one drop of a liter,” he affirmed.
In April, the refinery began supplying diesel and aviation fuel, following its commissioning in May last year.
However, the refinery has faced challenges with the insufficient supply of crude oil from international oil companies in Nigeria. “The NNPC is doing its best, but some of the IOCs are struggling to give us crude. Everybody is used to exporting, and nobody wants to stop,” Dangote told CNN recently.
