President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that Nigeria’s unity is non-negotiable.
Speaking at the Presidential Democracy Day Dinner on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall in the State House, Abuja, Tinubu pledged to restore Nigeria to its former glory. He highlighted Nigeria’s diversity as a key to success.
“Nigeria is a great country. Our national anthem captures the essence of service. I have seen many governors, both in person and on TV, serving their people. Thank you all. Tonight, we have set aside partisanship to embrace the green-white-green that represents Nigeria and our shared values.
“We pledge to pass on an unstained banner to future generations. Nigeria is greater than any one of us, and its unity cannot be traded. Our complexity and diversity are endless, but they are the best path to success,” Tinubu said.
Regarding the minimum wage, Tinubu joked, “We will pay what Nigerians can afford. It’s about cutting your coat according to your size.”
He urged for greater investment in national orientation to reawaken citizens’ awareness and emphasized that true citizenship encompasses character beyond its dictionary definition.
“The promises we made include reducing food prices and ensuring bandits leave farmers alone, so we can restore Nigeria’s agricultural glory. We can achieve tremendous success by encouraging our children to uphold our value system. As the leader, I am committed to making changes, but it’s a collective effort. We need to invest in national orientation and teach our children the true meaning of citizenship: fulfilling our duties as one family, one nation under God.”
Addressing recent social media buzz about his fall, Tinubu said, “This morning, I tripped, and it went viral. Some were unsure if I was dancing ‘buga’ or wearing ‘babariga.’ But it’s a day to celebrate democracy, and as a traditional Yoruba man, I performed Idobale. It’s a day worth falling for. I thank you all for your support. I promise you, I won’t fall.”
