Tragedy struck the ancient city of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, on Saturday, as a gas tanker explosion rocked the Ita-Oshin area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway around 5:30 pm. According to reports, the incident occurred when the tanker’s brakes failed, leading to a catastrophic collision.
Eyewitnesses recounted how the driver, in a desperate attempt to mitigate the impact, veered the gas-laden tanker into the road divider. Swift action was taken by the State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service Department, Federal Road Safety Corps, and security personnel who swiftly arrived at the scene to offer vital assistance.
