The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has taken action against six officials who purportedly misrepresented themselves as emissaries of the palace during an event with the Ooni of Ife. According to a statement released by Chief Sam Igbe, Iyase of Benin Kingdom, the suspended functionaries include Johnbull Igbinosun, Iduhonre (Ihogbe), S.E. Aigbiremwen, Efesieoghoba (Ogbelaka), Ogbeide Osagie, and Osamudiame Edo.
These individuals allegedly engaged in behavior deemed sacrilegious by falsely proclaiming allegiance to the Ooni and providing inaccurate information about the historical relationship between the Benin Royal Dynasty and the Ooni-ship of Ife. Their actions, captured in circulating video clips, were deemed inappropriate and disrespectful to Benin customs.
The Benin Traditional Council (BTC) strongly denounced their behavior, urging the public to disregard their false claims and instead refer to authoritative sources for accurate information on the historical connection between the two monarchies. The BTC, acting on the authority of Oba Ewuare II, suspended the individuals from their traditional roles and advised the public to refrain from associating with them during this period.
