The United States Mission in Nigeria reaffirmed its dedication to assisting Nigerian youth in overcoming economic challenges and unemployment by empowering them to realize their entrepreneurial and innovative aspirations.
During his speech at the Life Entrepreneurship Skills for Green Economy Jobs Graduation held on Thursday, April 25, at the Field of Skills and Dream (FSD) Academy in Oko Oba-Agege, Lagos, US Consul General Will Stevens assured that his country stands ready to support Nigerian youth in achieving their life aspirations.
“We at the US Mission in Nigeria are deeply committed to supporting the aspirations and dreams of Nigerian youth as they navigate the changing landscape of employment, innovation, and entrepreneurship,” Stevens stated. He expressed pride in the United States’ efforts to expand the skill sets of young people, citing partnerships like the one with FSD.
Stevens highlighted exchange programs such as the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs, and the International Visitors Leadership Programme as avenues through which the US supports the development of future business leaders with tailored training and mentorship.
He also noted significant investments by the US private sector in Nigeria, citing companies like Microsoft and Google, which provide training to young people seeking to enter the job market equipped with 21st-century skills.
Stevens commended Omowale Ogunrinde, CEO of FSD, for the academy’s commitment to empowering underprivileged youth with skills. He acknowledged FSD’s contribution to youth empowerment, making it a valued partner in US government exchange programs.
Meanwhile, FSD Academy at Oko Oba-Agege, Lagos, celebrated the graduation of 100 students equipped with skills to excel in various entrepreneurial ventures. Ogunrinde shared her experiences in piloting the academy, emphasizing its 21-year commitment to empowering Nigerian youth.
Ogunrinde explained that the academy, which operates tuition-free campuses across 14 states, partnered with various organizations to sponsor students’ training. She highlighted the academy’s success in providing employment opportunities for all graduates, a testament to its impact in reducing unemployment among Nigerian youth.
With a focus on practical entrepreneurial and vocational training, the academy has trained over 10,000 individuals across Nigeria, contributing to enterprise development and job creation in various sectors.
Supported by local and international partners, the academy’s projects have reached numerous cities across Nigeria, demonstrating its commitment to empowering youth and fostering economic growth nationwide.
